Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Patient Preparation
1. Patient should eat a balanced meal or be given a measured glucose dose 2 hours prior to test.
2. Patient may have water during test.
Specimen Collection
Plasma
Draw blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube(s) or a plasma gel tube(s) from a fasting patient (2 hour). Spin down (maximum: 2 hours) and send 1 mL of lithium heparin plasma refrigerated.
Note: 1. Indicate plasma on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s) from a fasting patient (2 hour). Spin down (maximum: 2 hours) and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.
Note: 1. Indicate serum on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
