Specimen Requirements

5 mL from a first-morning, random urine collection in a urine container supplied. Send specimen refrigerated.

Note:  The first-morning specimen is requested because it will contain the highest concentration of human chorionic gonadotropin.

Reference Values

Males and non-pregnant females:  negative

Negative tests are reported along with specific gravity of the specimen. If testing is performed on other than a first-morning specimen, it is recommended that a negative test be repeated on a first-morning specimen or that a serum pregnancy test be performed if clinically indicated.
