Specimen Requirements

Blood and serum are required for this test.

 

Blood

Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s), and send 3 mL of EDTA whole blood refrigerated.

Note:  1. Specimen may be stored refrigerated up to 56 hours. However, storage >24 hours may result in falsely elevated hematocrit results.

2. Indicate blood on request form.

3. Label specimen appropriately (blood).

 

Serum
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated. Avoid exposure of specimen to atmosphere. Protect specimen from light. Avoid hemolysis and lipemia.
Note:  1. Salicylazosulfapyridine will depress results.
2. Indicate serum on request form.
3. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
